Metempsychosis μετεμψύχωσις as Transmigration of the Soul and Palingenesis παλιγγενεσίς as Rebirth or Regeneration as in Rebecoming into a new Body as Reincarnation or Re-Embodiment, both had been reflexively, circularly used to define each other throughout history in convoluted manners used to justify all sorts of manners of poorly derived delusions. That is mostly why I won’t be making any citations of any idiosyncratic use cases by any philosopher or sage in known history that uses these terms as it merely clutters the undying Mind to ponder upon what needs not to be referenced when ever you can realize these things yourself if you already have a metaphysical primer to these matters, a sufficient Greek-English Lexicon’s all one requires to realize if a term and its meaning is naturally derived.
Metempsychosis: The Changing State of Ensoulment

Curiously, ἐμψυχῶ(empsukho) (auto-translated by Google as “Enliven” or “Inspirit”) means to Cool and Refresh.
The conception behind “Empsycho” corresponds to generalized observations of those who hunt for ghosts look for abnormally cold spots that has nothing to do with the poor insulation of abandoned haunted places, but symbolically, the Elysian plain gets cooled by the West Wind to the souls in the afterlife, and the cold damp walls of the Grotto (Platon’s “Cave”) gathering moisture, the “cooling” is the phenomenal concentration of the motions of the Soul or the modulations of the Aether to a confined point distinct from space into and as a stable dynamo we call matter, which is why most souls who die and haven’t actualized Nibbana, Euphoria, Eudaimonia, Theoria, etc., would end up trying to find a cool spot to rest their soul but within an empty bodily vessel suitable for the Mind to re-establish a new mortal consciousness upon as themselves when clearly it is a lesser otherness from itself that is enjoined.
The Highest Soul is the Immortal Mind, and the Immortal Mind is the Liberant that seeks Liberation through Becoming the Absolute, finding Sanctuary within thine very Soul that is not the Lower Soul that is the object of its own destruction, for all that which conditionally has form conditionally deforms.
The Lower Soul is embodied by matter or by a Mind made body but nevertheless, is entombed by aggregates of what it is not. Soma Sema, the Body is the Tomb, a signifier of Mortality. The Platonic Tripartite Theory of the Soul is fundamentally simplified perhaps by Plotinus as merely the Lower Soul, though the World Soul and Individual Soul have an Higher and Lower said of it, the Higher of both World Soul and Individual Soul is the Total Soul yet the Lower World Soul and the Lower Individual Soul are still of the same Hypostasis of the Soul. This realization made me treat the Lower World Soul as “Body” and Lower Individual Soul as “Life”, though many doth protest that Life exists prior to Life, that Life prior to Life is not Life but the Causes that leads to the Genesis and Palingenesis of Life. The Sub-Hypostasis of Life within the Hypostasis of Psyche is chronologically the fifth delineation, while the Sub-Hypostasis of Body within the Hypostasis of Psyche is chronologically the fourth delineation. I have therefore, albeit esoterically (and somewhat poorly) in my Ananke Logos book until now, proposed that Soul has a fivefold nature. Although I have the Total Soul/All Soul represented as “Being” in one of the more metaphysically pertinent pages, the explanation for that will come in another future article.
Returning to the topic at hand, Metempsychosis and Palingenesis is generally used in a horizontal (or circular or cyclical) paradigm of endless causes and effects all the way around, but the Body does not “ensoul” anything, nor does the Soul “embody” anything. The Soul is that which ensouls the Body, and the Soul is that which is the subject of embodiment by something other than the Soul, which means, the embodiment is the extrinsic attribute of the Soul as the activity of the Soul, while the ensoulment is the intrinsic principle of the Soul that results to the effect of embodiment.
There are terms like “Brahmabhutena” or Become Brahman as in the Becoming the Embodiment of the Absolute, but syntactically, all living things embody the Absolute, as too all Minds so a fool might claim they are already liberated yet they cannot explain what specifically are they liberated from. There is an intrinsic principle becoming prior to becoming yet here too, it is merely analogous to such terms but not actually properly represented without some errors.
The Absolute does not embody what-ness for it is not a “what”, yet it is “that” without “what” for nothing other than “that” is “that”. Extremely nit-picky individuals need to be aware of most positive statements on the Monistic Absolute falls short of the presence of direct abidance within the One.
Those that are lead to error in these anagogical, kataphatic praises of the One that doesn’t define the One should at least begin to ask themselves what is the complete opposition to both ensoulment and embodiment. Ensoulment is dilution of the Self towards otherness, and embodiment is the false unity conjoinment of the Soul as contingence to Other than the Self as itself, separated from the Self in a conditional paradigm.
There is a sort of changing of ensoulment towards the unchanging Soul as the Mind purified of all fetters and although poorly conveyed as an instantiated extrinsic attributive embodiment of the Absolute, the Transmigrant nevertheless is the Subject of Liberation in a sort of Reversion away from all that which is not as means for the synthesis of the Subject to the Absolute whereby there isn’t other Absolutes or other Subjects, not even one Absolute without any Subject or one Subject without any Absolute, for there is no negation of the Liberant apart from Liberation as in there is no Liberation-in-itself devoid of any Liberants.
The vertical metempsychosis is the “inverse ensouling”, a sort of returning to the Absolute by severing the fetters that promotes phenomenal dilution as means for noumenal concentration upon the Absolute, purging the cause of noumenal dilution that leads to phenomenal dilution so that you won’t again be re-diluted within phenomena as a living being or otherwise (earthbound and/or “hellbound” disembodied yet self-objectifying spirits). All mortals will die at least once, but until one erases the primordial agnosis that lead to their phenomenal dilution of the soul, all that is guaranteed is more suffering over and over post-death in a perpetual state of After-death, IF they don’t get horizontally engaged in metempsychosis which results in palingenesis. All Afterlife is, is life after death, it is Palingenesis, even if one isn’t endowed with the Lower World Soul AKA: “Body”, the “Life” persists irrespective of the state of the Body until the source of the Life is retracted upwards into its higher hypostatic nature surpassing through the Nous into the Monad as the principle of principle devoid of attribution as its attribute is the principle.

A side note, re-possession of an abandoned empty yet technically healthy enough body by a different soul from its previous owner is metaphysically plausible, though usually the owner generally has full control over their own body (but not of the conditions of the body that’s phenomenally afflicted by it which such ailments can only be phenomenally dealt with and never noumenally), demonic possession might weaken the soul of the owner as it gets tormented by the demonic souls, but that’s not full direct repossession of the rights to that body which persists for as long as the consciousness bound to that body persists. Many sorts of drugs and poisons weaken the connection of the Mind to the individual consciousness, but it’s generally left hand path goetic magic usage that denies the right hand path theurgic magic as well as the middle path which is Nondualism that isn’t a mixing of left and right hand paths for it transcends the dichotomy and rightly denies the place of vain rites to having anything to do with Theoria and the Socratic Method used to the realization of the One.
